Best Movie of the 2010s: The Final
There’s not much else to say: we’re here! It’s the final! 64 movies entered: Parasite and Get Out remain! Which of these movies is the best film of the 2010s? Here we go:
THE FINAL
No pitches this time, just the results. You’ve heard enough from us!
Erin’s Choice: I choose…Parasite!
Tom’s Choice: I rewatched some scenes from both of these to make my final decision, and one scene pushed Parasite over the top. It’s the scene with the flood and what it says about class relations. The Kims, a lower-middle class family, have their entire apartment flooded out. For Moon-gwang and Geun-sae, the family in poverty, they are safe from the storm by nature of latching onto the affluent Park family, but at the cost of serious physical danger. And yet, the Parks themselves refer to the storm as a “blessing.” All three are the titular “parasites” toward each other, but one single weather event encapsulates the point of the whole movie: any random event can decimate the lower class and rarely anything affects the upper class. The execution of that one scene, to me, is as pure and tight as Bong Joon-ho could have expressed his message in his art.
The People’s Choice: Parasite - 21 (58.3%), Get Out - 15 (41.7%). Which means…
WINNER, and the official Best Movie of the 2010s:
PARASITE (2019)
