The Definitive Disney/Pixar Tournament: The Play-In Matchups

Hey everyone! Since we finished up our Oscars season content, we’ve been brainstorming other fun ideas to write about while we work through our 2000s movies, and we thought you’d enjoy a Disney/Pixar tournament, because who doesn’t at least like some Disney and Pixar movies?! It will operate much like our Best Movie of the 2010s tournament. This will include Disney and Pixar animated features only - so, unfortunately for some of you, no High School Musical or Cruella or Haunted Mansion or Cheetah Girls 2 in this tournament.

Before we unveil the bracket (which is already made!), we need your help to decide the final four entries into the contest! You can either vote in our
Instagram stories or right here down below!! Please follow us on IG or subscribe to our e-mail list if you would like the tournament matchups delivered directly to your inbox! Here we go:

Clash of the Concerts:
FANTASIA (1940) vs. FANTASIA 2000 (1999)

Fantasia is an old school classic, combining classical music with good old fashioned Disney animation. Fantasia 2000 was a sequel of sorts that stuck to the same experimental concert vibe as the original 1940 film.

Skirmish of the Sequels:
CARS 3 (2017) vs. RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET (2018)

Here’s a battle of two follow-ups: a third installment of the movie franchise that helped establish Larry the Cable Guy as a movie star versus the only Disney movie with a Kim Kardashian reference in the title.

Duel for the Dark Ages:
THE RESCUERS (1977) vs. ROBIN HOOD (1973)

This matchup is a showdown of two movies that are part of what is commonly referred to as the Dark Ages of Disney animation. Rude!

Melee for the Modern Day:
TURNING RED (2022) vs. RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON (2021)

For our fourth play-in matchup, why not make the freshmen fight for the final spot? Both of these movies were released within the last year!

So that’s it for now! Make sure you vote and have your voice heard! Next up will be the results and then your ability to make your own bracket to win five dollars!
